Our new website - and a little about us

2024-09-16

Hello and welcome to the new home of Love Tropics! We are so happy to have you. On this new site you can find everything, from our latest news, all of our beloved Love Tropics minigames, and the Live event page where you can watch our event as it happens.

It feels only fitting that with this fresh start, we offer a look back at our history:

After Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico in 2017, a few modders who worked on the Tropicraft mod at the time got together and decided that they wanted to help. After all, a trip to Puerto Rico is what brought Tropicraft into existence, so it felt fitting to give back. We set out to raise $3,000 over the course of a weekend. Having never organized a livestream or fundraiser of any sort, we just kind of winged it and got everyone we knew together to help out.

That weekend, we raised over $10,000 in aid for the island's inhabitants, and Love Tropics was born. We immediately felt that giving and caring nature of the gaming—and especially Minecraft—community that weekend, and knew that it could not be a one-time event.

Around the same time of year in 2018, we set out to raise $10,000 to help rebuild homes on the island. We ended up raising over $35,000. Magic!

In 2019, as the world was truly awakening to the existential threat of climate change, we broadened our horizons beyond Puerto Rico and never looked back. We're now proud to have worked with such a variety of fantastic organizations who are all working across borders, socioeconomic and gender barriers, as well as languages and cultures to fight for our planet and its inhabitants - in particular those living in the Earth's tropics and subtropics.
We are proud to have partnered with Direct Relief, Team Rubicon, Cool Earth, Oceana, Osa Conservation, Project Seagrass, Sustainable Harvest International, and Women’s Earth Alliance over the last 8 events.
Love Tropics is a labor of love. Everything we do, we do because we care. We do not make any money from this event - all money we earn through Twitch subs or other incidentals are donated right back during the event each year. We hope by setting this example, we can show the world that those with the resources, time, and desire to give back can do so using whatever means they have at their disposal. In our case, that means is Minecraft; the massive amount of passion, blocks, and lines of code put forth by our team of incredible volunteers each year are astounding.

We hope you enjoy our new website, and hope to see you at this year's event! If you'd like to keep up with the very latest in Love Tropics news and events happening, join us on Discord and keep an eye on our socials for more announcements!
